How do you create a start-up budget for a business?
Brad asked:
I’m 21 years old and I’m in the process of creating a business plan for a website I’m creating but I have just about no idea as to creating a budget. Is there any website or book that can really help me out? My website offers a free service, so I won’t have any products for sale. Down the road I’ll be making money off advertisements. If you happen to own a business or website and are gracious enough to mentor, please send me an email. Thanks so much!

Go to and download the Excel template for estimating start-up costs.
I am 23 and I have a mobile spa business and just recently started my second business which is an online store. I am in Canada. I registered my business name, registered as sole proprietor, got a business #, registered a domain for 2 years, pay monthly for a pro account for creating my website, I am doing all the web stuff myself but you could look into pricing/hiring professionals to take care of the technicial stuff. Now I am in the process of researching dropshipping as it is cheaper than buying wholesale than carrying the stock. There is a lot to look into… laws, permits (such as importing and exporting, gst/hst accounts), try your government webpage they tend to offer lots of help. If you are in Canada, then follow the business link, it has been lots of help for me.
I wouldnt recommend going with SCORE, it is a disaster waiting to happen. I have helped small businesses formulate business plans for over 10 years and can help you with your start up costs. I have worked with a dozen of cleaning companies and can provide them as references. Start your business off on the right foot by hiring an affordable professional (like myself) to help you.
